Hearts of Oak is the third studio album by American indie rock band Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, released on February 11, 2003 by Lookout Records. A music video was filmed for the single Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone. It was ranked 59th by the online magazine Pitchfork on the list of the 200 albums of the decade. Hearts of Oak garnered universal acclaim from music critics highlighting Leo's musicianship in terms of lyrical content, instrumentation and vocal performance. At Metacritic, which. Hearts of Oak is just as exciting and powerful as The Tyranny of Distance. Lyrically dense and literate, Leo tells a story like no one since Phil Lynott in the glory days of Thin Lizzy or maybe Kevin Rowland at the height of Dexy's peak. The Pharmacists' sound has elements of punk, mod, Irish folk, agit-funk, dub, and power pop played with controlled fury and topped by Leo's amazingly elastic vocals. Ted Leo & The Pharmacists. Hearts of Oak. Album 2012 13 Songs. The Ballad of the Sin Eather. 5: Summary: On this release, Ted Leo matures as a musician and songwriter and delivers his coming out extravaganza, full of infectious melodies and great lines. Before I can describe the band, this album, or anything to do with why I'm writing this, something must be understood: While the comic presented depicts a fictional circumstance and has nothing at all to do with Hearts of Oak, it must be known that the comic gets the point across that Ted Leo really rocks, like really. This ability to rock can be viewed as a good or bad. It was recorded September 6-12 and 16-20, 2002, at the Rare Book Room, Brooklyn, New York. It was mastered October 4, 2002. Pitchforks Rob Mitchum gave the record a Best New Music tag and scored it an 8. 3, saying, Hearts of Oak comes out smelling far sweeter than the releases of Leos fellow glossy-mag guitar loyalists.
