This album does not present songs in hopes that the radio will decide to play a few tracks, but this album still remains to be catchy in the most uninviting fashion possible. Mew's And the Glass Handed Kites is not an album to be dismissed as another pop effort that deserves a place in the bargain bin outside of an FYE outlet. Rather, Mew's latest effort is the quintessence of what you should swallow, what the radio should play, and what catchy songs should be. The album kicks open with a song that seems like it's lost its melody and is frantically trying to find it again. Released September 19, 2005. And the Glass Handed Kites Tracklist. Show all albums by Mew. Danish quartet Mew's dense and occasionally difficult And the Glass Handed Kites is old-fashioned only in the sense that it's meant to be eaten in a single sitting. This is not a single-driven record - though Special, with its bouncy, moody chorus and octave vocal delivery, sounds like an emission from a time machine parked dead center within the heydays of early-'90s alternative rock - rather, it's a single organism. This rock band, Mew: They might not be cool. I mean, theyre Danish, and theyre pretty, and they wear natty blazers and scarves, and they play great music, all of which is pretty cool. And maybe thats the pinnacle of style in Denmark what do I know, but over here its uncool, and that uncoolness is part of what makes And the Glass-Handed Kites, now released in the U. one of the better rock records of the year

Not an easy decision on MOV's part — cut it to a 2xLP set and lose some of the seamless transitions on the album. But in its current form, it actually sounds fantastic — the low-end is deep and resonant, and the highs soar. This was a release done right. Snap this up before its value rises.
This is a really beautiful release of one of my favorite Mew albums: A masterpiece! But oh boy, how I wish they would have made a double album out of this. It's not only that the mastering in itself sounds slightly over compressed and is fairly bass-heavy (not necessarily in a good way), but who on earth thought that it was a great idea to cut such a bass-heavy mastering to a single vinyl with around 25 minutes on each side! It's just not physically possible to do that AND have it sound great at the same time. Especially the inner tracks A Dark Design and Louise Louisa sound over compressed, woolly and slightly distorted. While it doesn't sound terrible, I would still prefer the CD-version. Such a shame...
Bought mine yesterday. Kind of upset about how it sounds to be honest.
i have classic black vinyl version. LP in black anti-static sleeve, with booklet and poster. nice issue.
Any proof of this? That is not supposed to exist at all?
What number has this copy? And can I buy it?regardsbrenøe
I got my copy yesterday and it sounds great! Don't really notice quiet mastering nor over-compressed sound.
Apparently I spent $39.00 so you won't have to. This is a sucker-punch to fans.
FFS it sounds like I'm listening to FM radio. Over-compressed. I was so looking forward to this vinyl release, but it lacks fidelity. :( Listening thru a Sansui G5700 and Yamaha NS-10Ms.
Weird that this has no album matrix on it, but maybe that is because of the clear vinyl? Sounds great overall though. Bass is nice and rich. The lower volume is not that low, to me anyway. Just thrilled to have this on vinyl.
A great sounding pressing. Mastered quieter than some of my 80s albums even, but you can tell they made sure all of those strong transients from the drums are preserved. The top end is open and clear, and the bass is deep. The volume drop is in no way a negative for me; just turn it up louder to compensate. Thankfully they really got the details right on this one sonically. Also was really impressed with the quality of the sleeve and inserts.
Beautiful pressing and I'm so happy to finally have this album on vinyl. I'll admit I was a bit concerned when I first dropped the needle and noticed the quieter mastering, but with the album cranked just a smidge above my usual level, the music is definitely experienced to it's full potential. Grab one of these before they sell out!
My copy is a tiny bit warped which i rarely see on MOV releases. Doesn't affect sound as far as i can hear and the mastering sounds awesome to me, just the aesthetics of it not being 100% flat when spinning. How is your copy?
The volume drop is due to the length of the album, 53 mins. That's well past the recommended capacity of a single disc. Crank it and it sounds great, though.
Love Me
My copy is flat. Only thing is the low mastering. I have heard the same from two of my friends who also bought the record.
The mastering is very low on this record. I don't know if it is intentional, but a bit strange. Reminds me of The Cures Disintegration - "This music has been mixed to be played loud so turn it up."
That's usually the case when they squeeze 53 minutes of music onto a single LP. I have to say though, I'm pretty damn pleased. I was quite shocked with the way they transitioned into side B. Literally a fade out in the middle of Saviours that starts on side A and continues on side B. Weirdly, though, it's probably the best place they could have done it. That section is very minimal. I think MOV knocked it out of the park, personally. I just cranked the stereo a bit more. Overall, the sound quality is pretty stellar.
Not a surprize; George Marino died of lung cancer in 2012. His mastering techniques have been fading since.
