From the album 'We Be All Africans' Out now: https. The album is released 27th May 2016 on Strut Records. The Pyramids have been hand-picked by Floating Points to open the West Coast leg of their live 30 years later, The Pyramids reunited unexpectedly following growing demand for their music from vinyl collectors and jazz fans and embarked on the first of many European tours featuring original members, as well as a fresh line-up including renowned percussionist Kenneth Nash. In 2012 the group signed to German label Disko B who released a new album, the freeform Otherworldly and all three albums from their rare back catalogue. For their new album, We Be All Africans, the group traveled to Berlin to hunker down in Max Weissenfeldts analogue Philophon studio. From the album 'We Be All Africans' Out 27th May 2016 on Strut Pre-Order: West Coast jazz mavericks, The Pyramids, led by their inspirational bandleader, Idris Ackamoor, return with a new album on Strut. The band met while in school in Ohio in the 1970s, where one of their teachers was renowned pianist, Cecil Taylor. Having disbanded in 1977, the group re-united in the 2010s following acclaim for their three independently released 1970s LPs from jazz aficionados and record collectors. Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids We Be All Africans Lottie Brazier , June 6th, 2016 21:00. Spiritual jazz has always been a fringe denomination. And it's difficult to pin down for good reason its name is less to do with the sound of this particular jazz, rather more that its jazz with a particular message religious, political or both. This album shows Ackamoor's band, despite having an almost 30-year break, to be very comfortable with one another in playing together. Unlike with indie bands or in pop music, in jazz it's more common to find people who have played together for years before recording anything. Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids. World , 2016. Still sounding impressively fresh Still sounding impressively fresh Idris Ackamoor and the Pyramids. Photograph: Tomas Moudry. The new studio album from this US west coast band is an impressively fresh-sounding affair, considering that they started in the early 70s, broke up at the end of that decade, and then reformed when it became clear that there was still a demand for their Afro-jazz-funk fusion. Ackamoor developed his style after taking the original band on a lengthy tour of Africa, living in Ghana, Kenya and Ethiopia, and the best tracks here match African influences against the horn solos, as in the furious Rhapsody in Berlin, or the vocal-and-percussion work-out Traponga.
