It was released on September 1, 2009, on Barsuk Records. It is rated 82100 by critics on Metacritic, earning it the distinction of universal acclaim. The album was recorded from early 2008 to mid-2009 by David Bazan in his basement studio near Seattle, Washington. Additional recording, mixing, and mastering was done by long-time collaborator and former Pedro the Lion member T. Curse Your Branches is the first solo album from David Bazan, who was previously the frontman to the indie rock band Pedro The Lion. Bazan recorded the album at his home studio album in Seattle, Washington, and it was mixed and mastered by former Pedro the Lion bandmate T. A few years before the album was recorded, Bazan had gone through a tumultuous period of his life. In 2006 he broke up Pedro the Lion, continued drinking heavily, and began questioning his religious faith. Album 2009 13 Songs. Curse Your Branches David Bazan. David Bazan made no attempt to hide his Christianity with Pedro the Lion, so it's appropriate that Curse Your Branches - his first full-length release as a solo artist - begins with a reference to the Garden of Eden. We ate the poison fruit, he sings over an acoustic guitar, and now it's hard to be, hard to be, hard to be a decent human being. The rest of Curse Your Branches follows in that direction, with Bazan attempting to shore up his own faith in a world of sinful temptation. Curse Your Branches. When I sleep, I'm usually dreaming But more and more, it's only one Where every hired gun I've ever fired Is making love to you while I look on. Oh, falling leaves should curse their branches For not letting them decide where they should fall And not letting them refuse to fall at all. In my throat, there swells a darkness It fills my mouth, and coats my lips And even as the threat of Hell. Play jigsaw puzzles for free Home. Curse Your Branches Bonus Track Version, 2013.
