Gene Grief stole the design credit from the artist Hugh Brown who designed this cover - Grief made minor alterations to Brown's work and CBS credited Grief, their inhouse artist. Brown gets an obscure reference on the second release. The sleeve is Brown's work not Grief's.

Give Em Enough Rope, their second album The Clash, released in the U. in 1977, remains unissued here, as do several remarkable singles that appear on neither LP, is a rockers assault on the Real World in the grand tradition of Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed and Never Mind the Bollocks, Heres the Sex Pistols. Produced by Sandy Pearlman, an American brought in by CBS and whos best known for his sometimes muddy work with Blue Öyster Cult, Give Em Enough Ropes sound seems suppressed: the highs arent there, and the presence of the band is thinner than it ought to be. The record doesnt j. Give Em Enough Rope entered the U. charts at Number Two. Give 'Em Enough Rope. For their second album, the Clash worked with the American hard rock producer Sandy Pearlman, best-known for his work with Blue Öyster Cult and the Dictators. The teaming was quite controversial within the punk community, and the sound of Give 'Em Enough Rope is considerably cleaner, yet the more direct sound hardly tamed the Clash. While the record doesn't burn with the same intense, amateurish energy of The Clash, it does have a big, forceful sound that is nearly as powerful. What keeps Give 'Em Enough Rope from being a classic is its slightly inconsistent material. Give Em Enough Rope. The Clash. Give Em Enough Rope Tracklist. You are awesome Favorite track: London Calling. mrRed aka mickemix. Give 'Em Enough Rope opens up with the blairing guitar of a Clash Classic, Safe European Home. An overall energetic song and one of the best on the album. An excellent way to start off a great album and really sets the tone with Joe's powerful vocals echoed by Mick Jones'. It remains a classic album to me, but The Clash do have stronger albums like London Calling, but nevertheless, this is a strong album, no doubt. I highly recommend this album to any fan of punk or rock. It's a shame sometimes this album is overlooked or underated because it is it shouldn't be, and is deserving of full recognition, even though it only contains ten tracks, the shortest on a Clash LP.
